The objective of this project is to design a distributed, proactive, autonomous, and intelligent traffic control system able to adapt the signaling intervals of several intersections according to the traffic situation in real time (or ahead of it) and implement the corresponding prototype for experimental testing.

A set of intersections locally applied mechanisms inherited from Quality of Service (QoS) in packet switching networks and tailored to the characteristics of road traffic. Traffic monitoring data needed to apply QoS techniques is performed by video image processing (background subtraction technique aimed at detecting moving objects in video sequences captured by static cameras). The network communication is implemented with WiFi technology, reducing costs and facilitating the implementation of prototypes for future commercial use.
